”The sheer serenity of the place left us gasping…”.

”Wild elephants and abundant birdlife. Tree Tops is a stunning jungle lodge with simple huts of clay and wood, bath at a freshwater well and meals cooked in clay pots on an open fire… A visit to Sri Lanka is a great introduction to the East”.

Debbie Revel-Smith, Puerto Cruz. July 2003
”A Beautiful Experience! An absolutely wonderful time at Tree Tops. Both Matt and myself were totally rejuvenated, relaxed and revitalised after our stay. Everybody at Tree Tops were fantastic, an extended family, the hunters and helpers, you all do a wonderful job. We were really sad to leave. I miss Kushan’s delicious food, I miss my daily showers by the well, I miss the clay hut, the sounds of the jungle, the trees, plants, herbs, and arrack - what a potent combination…”.

”What a strange feeling. We drive towards Tree Tops Jungle Lodge and, all of a sudden, the road gets so bad, that we can’t continue… Our driver shook his head … I found myself justifying our intent and telling him as much as I knew about Tree Tops. Suddenly some people appeared from a house nearby and organized a threewheeler taxi. We said goodbye to our driver and continued the journey across the fields, through riverbeds and over bumps into an uncertain future...What a surprise when we arrived to the lodge. We were absolutely overwhelmed by our first impression. The house, the details of its construction, the clay hut where we were supposed to live in, the table with the stone built in, the stone table in front of the house, the amazingly hard poles that support the house, the big table in the main building with the fruits, the water pots - we were just stunned - this must be paradise. Step by step we got to know all the people. Kushan did a great job managing the other guys – and he cooked us a soup from jungle herbs that should make men strong (what ever that means...). Kamal and Chandi prepared the most fantastic meals (this food could turn us into a vegetarians, honestly) and the lovable Podde and Kumare looked for our security during the night and on our many walks. Our stay at Tree Tops was definitely the climax of our Sri Lanka trip. And it came with good weather and full moon and with mars just next to the moon - it was just magic! Trekking with Podde, Kumare and Kushan was so much fun and so interesting at the same time. The jungle walks to the rocks, to the lake and to the ancient rock temples were a magnificent experience, although we didn't see many animals. But this is not Africa and one doesn't see much game in a thick jungle. We felt at home like in a family at Tree Tops, it was magic to listen to all the sounds, and we enjoyed bathing at the well in the moonlight. We are already looking forward coming to this wonderful place again”.

"We particularly liked the washing arrangements (al fresco by the well under the stars was magic). The night walk through the jungle, over old lava flows and round one of the ancient irrigation 'tanks' under a full moon was an exhilirating and surreal experience”.

Harm Kossen, Holland. September 2002 www.ecoclub.com
"I was there at the end of the dry season – the worst time to see birds – but still counted a number of 65 birds in just two days. If you are a dedicated nature lover with respect for the local environment you will most certainly like the relaxing atmosphere with huts beautifully designed in the local style. Here, you can walk freely around, instead of staying inside a car and being watched by wildlife rangers, such as is the case in most national parks like the nearby Yala".

Sarah More, United Kingdom, August 2003 www.i-escape.com
"The highlight of our wonderful trip to Sri Lanka. The combination of raw jungle experience and relaxation was perfect. Lars and the Jungle Lodge team were always attentive to our needs, whilst giving us enough space to feel like our jungle hut was our own private haven. The food was delicious - some of the best meals we had during our whole holiday - and an evening beer under the stars was a great end to a day's jungle adventure. Being peered at by a curious elephant while we ate lunch, enjoying a safari breakfast beside the watering hole, and experiencing a thrilling bullcart ride were other unforgettable highlights. The community at Tree Tops Lodge was a joy to be temporarily a part of; for the duration of our stay, the jungle was our home from home. For any travellers looking for an experience off the beaten track - get there before Lonely Planet does!!!”.

”An amazing place that needs to be seen to be believed. Living accommodations are simple but yet comfortable and provide beautiful views and surroundings. The atmosphere provided by the team running the place, is second to none… great food and fantastic people who are eager to share their knowledge of the local flora and fauna. Nights under the stars are tranquil but yet full of animal and bird sounds. I could hear elephants trumpeting not far away. The guests are kept safe by the constant vigilance of two night-watchers so there is never any doubt about personal safety. Washing by the well, under the stars, or at dawn, was particularly magical!”.

Guy Dehn, UK. November 2003
”A great time, nice place, good food, we saw lots of elephants, and Kushan and the guys were all very helpful…”.
